India was my very first destination. I was setting out to travel alone round the world but I was definitely unworldly. But I knew there was no going back. I had burnt my bridges: sold my house and left my job. I was excited for sure but, if I’m being honest, maybe there was also a touch of terror in the mix.
I knew I would arrive in Delhi at 11.20pm and I knew the name of the area where travellers stayed but I had not been able to book anywhere. A little like jumping off a cliff without knowing where you would land. Talk about trusting to chance!
As it turned out on arrival I was to meet up with two fellow travellers, one Aussie, one Brit who knew the ropes. We travelled on to our destination together. Such a relief.
Yet three days later, alone again, I was to witness a frightening incident which almost caused me to turn tail and book the next flight home. I’m so glad I didn’t.
You can read about it in this, the first leg of my travels through India and Nepal.
