Thailand was to introduce me to the bustle and fascination of Bangkok, where I stayed for a few days in a delightful place near to the river, whose restaurant opened on to a quiet side street. I didn’t have to go out to eat in the evening, which suited me at that early stage. Yet there was time enough to book my onward journey by train and then ferry to Ko Samui.
I was becoming a little more confident, so much so, before leaving Bangkok I decided to have my short hair cut even shorter. By then, after negotiating what Delhi threw at me and then the strenuous but delightful trek into the Himalayas, I was ready to relax.
On Ko Samui I found my utopia, literally, as this was the name of the place I stayed in a wooden hut, just a stone’s throw from the beach. Originally planned for a fortnight, the sun, the delicious Thai food and the friendly Thai people, seduced me into staying a whole month.
Read about my experience in what for me, at that time, became like a second home. I learnt so much about myself there and was reluctant to leave the place and the friends I had made.
